Following years of observation, introspection and reflection, I started exporting my ideas graphically in 2011. The intrinsic need to channel my thoughts and shape my ideas evolved into an intense urge for creative expression.
Biro sculptures
After experimenting with brush, paint, pencils and ink for 2 years, I decided to use a biro as the means to capture my work. The typical blue color of the simple biro I find especially intriguing – it combines a certain casualness with inherit distinctiveness.
During the painstaking work on the lines I feel like a sculptor on paper. Intuitively, I let shapes and figures emerge, while simultaneously I “direct” the result. I call this a process of “rational intuition”.
Besides fulfilling the need for creative expression, I feel the desire to create a tangible, analogue work of art that cannot be reproduced. In today’s digital world, almost anything can be easily copied or duplicated. With my biro drawings, I have the naïve belief to create something unique.
Leaf Art
From 2013 onwards, nature has become my main source of inspiration. Recording and analyzing the process of the decay of (tree)leaves has fueled a process of intrinsic imagination and the graphical expression thereof. Initially my goal was to depict the transition process for various types of leaves in phases, from completely fresh and green to a barren state of decay. Just to captivate the transition process. While studying the digitalized images of the leaves more accurately and attentively, I discovered much more than just decay.
Through various techniques, I create images where I magnify the original leaves dramatically. Using these images, I intend to expose the hidden details and splendor of nature and spark a process of awareness.
At times, I stress the shape and perishableness of the leaves; other times I focus on details that caught my attention. The detailed images show both abstract and more figurative shapes, which capture hidden moods.
Forest Views – Recent Work
Starting 2017, I am focusing my interests on numerous other phenomena created by nature. In my imagination, parts of trees, trunks, bark or moss obtain a face, or a soul. The sculptures I create out of these are both abstract and figurative.

Na jaren van observatie, introspectie en reflectie ben ik in 2011 gestart met het beeldend uitwerken van mijn ideeën. De drang om mijn gedachten te kanaliseren en mijn ideeën vorm te geven groeide tot een grote behoefte aan creatieve expressie.
Balpen sculpturen
Na een periode van 2 jaar experimenteren met kwast, verf en schrijfgerei, heb ik mijn keuze gemaakt voor het werken met balpen. Vooral de kenmerkende blauwe kleur vind ik intrigerend. Deze kleur heeft iets vanzelfsprekends en karakteristieks tegelijk.
Tijdens het nauwgezette werken aan het lijnenspel voel ik mij als een beeldhouwer op papier, waar ik vormen intuïtief laat uitkomen en ’bepaal’. Ik noem dit ook wel ‘rationele intuïtie’.
Los van het creatieve proces ervaar ik een verlangen iets analoog te vervaardigen dat niet reproduceerbaar is. In de hedendaagse maatschappij lijkt bijna alles eenvoudig te kopiëren en te dupliceren. Ik heb het naïeve geloof met de balpentekeningen iets te maken dat uniek is.
Bladkunst
Sinds 2013 is vooral de natuur mijn grote inspiratiebron. Het proces van de vergankelijkheid van (boom)bladeren, de analyse en de registratie hiervan heeft geleid tot een innerlijke fantasie en de beeldende weergave hiervan. Aanvankelijk had ik tot doel om de diverse soorten bladeren, van volledig groen tot aan een verdorde staat van ontbinding, in fases vast te leggen. Puur om het proces daarvan in kaart te brengen. Naarmate ik steeds nauwkeuriger en aandachtiger naar mijn gedigitaliseerde bladeren begon te kijken, ontdekte ik daarin veel meer dan alleen de vergankelijkheid.
Door gebruik te maken van diverse technieken creëer ik afbeeldingen van bladeren die ik flink uitvergroot. Op die manier wil ik de verborgen details en pracht van de natuur openbaren en een bewustmakingsproces hiervan op gang brengen.
Soms leg ik de nadruk op de vorm en de vergankelijkheid van het blad zelf; bij andere bladeren zoom ik meer in op details die me aanspreken. In die details worden abstracte vormen afgewisseld met meer figuratieve- waarin gemoedstoestanden verborgen zitten.
Bosgezichten – Recent werk
Sinds 2017 is mijn interesse gericht op talrijke andere verschijnselen die de natuur creëert. In mijn fantasie krijgen delen van bomen, stronken, schorsen en mossen een gezicht of ziel.
De sculpturen die ik hiervan maak zijn zowel abstract als figuratief.
